At Intellisys, we are serious when it comes to movies and music. Over the past five decades, one of the principals of the business has been exposed to an incredible range of home audio and professional sound reinforcement, having played in professional bands over three decades. Both owners have over three decades of ownership and experience with multichannel audio, from the early days of Dolby Pro-Logic.

As equipment has improved and technology has advanced in multichannel AV, our focus, interests and skills have broadened to develop highly engineered rooms to accommodate complex multichannel audio. It was very apparent that the rooms and their acoustic behaviours, rather than equipment alone, would play a large part in the quality of the audio

In 2012-13 we spent many months researching acoustic principles, acquired calibrated audio testing and measurement equipment and software, and designing and building absorbers, diffusers and bass traps. Acoustic treatment materials were tested, and many were discarded or modified until we were happy with both the test results and how it sounded in critical listening tests. This resulted in the first iteration of our acoustically tuned demonstration theatre. We have made two further upgrades resulting in the current Atmos 9.4.4 theatre.

Once we were done, we managed to flatten out the response in the room, tame the bass, and reduce peaks, nulls and standing waves. But what does all this mean?

Everything, even a whisper, can be heard in this room. At the same time, watching a movie at 90dB is not deafening, but engaging. The bass slam is so present you can feel it hit you in the chest. The result is a movie experience so live and engaging, you feel that you are right in the action.

We continue to use the same principles in all our theatre projects since, and have many successful projects and very happy clients throughout the country.
